Serving Southern California Residents
Welcome. The mission of Biola Counseling Center is to provide our clients with the support and resources needed to reduce psychological suffering and to improve quality of life. While it is rarely easy to turn to a professional therapist for help and support, most people find psychotherapy to be very beneficial. The Biola Counseling Center provides outpatient mental health and psychological testing services to residents of southern California.
Services include:
Individual Psychotherapy
Individual therapy can be a powerful tool for personal transformation and growth. Whether you are currently experiencing distress or simply want to invest in your personal development and growth, the Biola Counseling Center is here to support you. The Biola Counseling Center offers both short-term and long-term therapy and it is possible for clients to be seen either once or twice a week. Examples of difficulties that can be addressed in individual psychotherapy include addictions, abuse, anxiety, attention difficulties, depression, disordered eating, emotion management, grieving and mourning, interpersonal conflict, loneliness, and low self-esteem. Our therapists are available to support you regardless of the issue you would like to discuss.
Therapy for Couples
Couples counseling is designed to assist couples who are experiencing difficulty in their relationship and who would like a safe place in which both partners can feel heard and understood. Couples counseling can be used to help couples develop a deeper understanding of the psychological life of their partner and learn new and more effective communication and conflict management skills. While each couple presents with unique circumstances, examples of issues that can be addressed are seemingly irreconcilable differences of opinion or lifestyle choices, difficulties finding solutions to repetitive cycles of conflict, domestic violence, infidelity, and problems with sexual intimacy.
Pre-Marital Counseling Services
Pre-marital counseling is a specific kind of therapy that helps couples prepare for marriage. Topics for discussion may include finances, beliefs and values, roles in marriage, sex, parenting, family relations, decision making, etc. The purpose of pre-marital counseling is to identify relational strengths that the couple possesses and establish a realistic set of expectations about the marriage relationship. Clients also have the opportunity to discuss any relational patterns that may become a problem in marriage.
Psychological Testing
BCC provides social-emotional and psycho-educational assessment services. Clients often seek assessment for ADHD, learning or cognitive difficulties, and emotional functioning. Psychological testing can enhance the potential for academic and professional success through identification of specific areas of difficulty that can be targeted for intervention.
Other Services
Members of the clinical staff are available for speaking engagements, as well as training and consultation in their respective areas of expertise.
